The candidate must have six passes in the GCSE exam or have an equivalent high school qualification to gain admission into a bachelor’s degree program in Swaziland. ‘C’ grade or higher in English and four other subjects, are generally considered being pre-requisite for an admission.
Bachelor’s programs in Swaziland typically last four years. The academic year is divided into two semesters, which comprises fifteen weeks each. The students need to take a final exam at the end of each year. Grade of A is the first class degree, which is rarely awarded. B and C grades are considered to be good grades as well. The bachelor’s degree is awarded to students who have overall obtained at least a ‘D’ grade.
Master’s Programs in Swaziland
Master’s degree programs are offered in few faculties in Swaziland. Adult education, agriculture, chemistry, history, environment resource management, and crop science are some of the popular master’s degrees in Swaziland. Master of education in curriculum and teaching, educational foundation, and management are also offered by the public university in Swaziland.
Those who have completed their bachelor’s degree, with D grade or better, can enroll into a master degree program in the respective field of study. The masters programs include coursework and thesis. Students can take the program on a full time or part time basis. Full time master’s degree programs last three years, while part time programs take four years to complete. Failure to complete the program within the maximum allowable period will lead to the student having to discontinue the program. The course work consists of core and elective courses. The core courses are mandatory and are prescribed by the respective department. The students can choose elective courses. Those who have obtained an overall aggregate of at least 50 percent in each semester are awarded the master’s degree in Swaziland.
Doctorate Program in Swaziland
The primary public university of Swaziland offers a doctorate program in one field- agricultural education. Those who have successfully completed their master’s degree in agriculture can pursue the doctorate.
In order to develop science and technology knowledge in the country, the public university has recently started an electronic engineering program.
